ROUTE 1

Suggested Road Route from Calais:If you are traveling from Calais and want to avoid excessive tolls, please follow this route (best to set your satnav for each milestone to avoid your satnav getting you on the most expensive route) - it's longer but an enjoyable, scenic drive (takes approx 7-8 hours with breaks) - please have some Euros with you before you leave Calais:

Calais follow the A16 to Abberville
Abberville to Rouen on the A28
(satnav from Calais set to A28 just north of Rouen)

Rouen to Louviers on the A13
Louviers to Dreux on the N154
(satnav from north of Rouen set to N154 Dreux)

N154 Dreux to A10 north of Orleans
(satnav from Dreux set to A10 just north of Orleans)

A10 Orleans onto A71 to Vierzon
A71 Vierzon onto A20 Chateauroux
(satnav from Orleans set to A20 just north of Chateauroux)

A20 Chateauroux onto N145 Gueret
(satnav from Chateauroux set to N145 Gueret)

For final leg of the journey from Gueret, set your satnav using the below Long/Lat coordinates:
N45°55'35.7  E002°18'05.1

Alternatively from N145 Gueret continue on N145 to Gouzon then take the D997 to Chenerailles
from Chenerailles take the D990 to Aubusson
Stay on the D990 until you reach the D941
From the D941 head towards Clermont Ferrand - the cottage is at the top of a steep incline just past the turn off to St-Avit-de-Tardes, approx 14Km, and on the left hand side of the road.

Another option below (Tolls will cost approximately 26 Euros - please take cash as not all machines take Visa):

Calais follow the A16 to Abberville
Abberville to Rouen on the A28
(satnav from Calais set to A28 just north of Rouen)

Rouen to Louviers on the A13
Louviers to Dreux on the N154
(satnav from north of Rouen set to N154 Dreux)

N154 Dreux to A10 north of Orleans
(satnav from Dreux set to A10 just north of Orleans)

A10 Orleans onto A71 to Vierzon
Stay on the A71 after Vierzon signed Clermont Ferrand to A714 Montlucon

(satnav from Orleans to A714 Montlucon)

A714 from Montlucon to D997 Gouzon then D941 (east of Aubusson) heading towards Clermont Ferrand 

For final leg of the journey you may want to set your satnav using the below Long/Lat coordinates:
N45°55'35.7  E002°18'05.1

From the D941 head towards Clermont Ferrand - the cottage is at the top of a steep incline just past the turn off to St-Avit-de-Tardes, approx 14Km, and on the left hand side of the road. 

NOTE: I've found the Newhaven to Dieppe a better route than Calais - you'll avoid the hassle of the immigrant issue they have at Calais. The route will pretty much be the same just set your satnav to head to the A13 south of Rouen then pick up either Route 1 or Route 2 above.
